What is the central idea of your concentration?

How can I illustrate a modern-day version of a person’s life? Technology is becoming more prevalent and dominate many parts of our lives.  In my sustained investigation, I show the life cycle from childbirth, to childhood, to adulthood and old age, as we navigate through a myriad of issues pertaining to the human condition as well as technologically-based challenges. In a time when people have instant access to the internet and social media, loneliness has, ironically, become an issue for many, as depicted in #10. What we should and should not prioritize and pursue in life is in question.

How does the work in your concentration demonstrate the exploration of your idea?

By talking to people in different life stages, I’ve developed a storyline portraying some thematic struggles. I begin my investigation practicing the creation of digital illustrations representing major phases in a lifetime, as in # 2 and #4. I revise works to create a connection between my illustrations and some commonalities most people experience in life such as separation from family, loneliness, war, and death. in # 9.  I also experiment with sentimental objects in # 12 and #15 to create mixed media imagery that alludes to technologically-based issues.
